Massive Fire Engulfs Power Lines in City’s Grover Colony;

Date:

Chaos Ensues. An incident involving a massive fire has been reported in the Jalandhar area. Rising temperatures and the scorching heat have further compounded the difficulties faced by the city’s residents. On Monday morning, an atmosphere of panic gripped Jalandhar’s Grover Colony when, precisely at 8:00 AM, a fierce fire suddenly erupted in the main power lines. Overloaded due to the blistering heat, these aging wires instantly burst into a raging inferno.

According to local residents and eyewitnesses, the incident occurred in the morning—just as people were preparing to leave for their offices and children for school—when a cluster of wires mounted on a utility pole suffered a short circuit. Initially, intense sparks flew, which, in a matter of moments, transformed into ferocious flames. The acrid smell of burning plastic and the loud crackling of the wires plunged the colony into chaos. The flames rose so high that residents feared the fire might engulf their homes. Acting swiftly, people rushed to switch off the main power supply to their houses as a precautionary measure.

Fortunately, the concerned authorities were alerted in time, and the power supply was cut off from the source. This averted a major disaster and prevented any loss of life or property. Following this incident, the entire Grover Colony has been left without electricity. In this scorching heat, the lack of power is causing immense hardship for residents—particularly young children and the elderly. There are also concerns that the water supply may be disrupted. Local residents are expressing deep outrage regarding the functioning of the Electricity Department (PSPCL). They argue that while electricity consumption invariably rises during the summer season every year, no attention is paid to strengthening the infrastructure or replacing dilapidated wiring. The residents of the colony have issued a strong demand to the administration and the concerned department to immediately replace the dilapidated wires in the area and to make appropriate arrangements commensurate with the electrical load. Such neglect of basic infrastructure could, at any moment, lead to a major, life-threatening accident. Currently, employees of the Electricity Department are present at the site, and work on repairing the wires and restoring power supply is underway.
