Threat to Bomb Sri Harmandir Sahib: Net Tightens Around Accused Sourav Biswas; Punjab Police to Seek Interpol’s Assistance

Date:

The Amritsar Commissionerate Police is preparing to notify the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) regarding the arrest of Sourav Biswas, a native of West Bengal. It has come to light that the accused made payments to certain individuals in Pakistan and Bangladesh using cryptocurrency.

An investigation is currently underway to determine the nature of the deal in exchange for which these payments were made. It is suspected that Sourav Biswas—the accused behind the email-based threats—may be a wanted individual not only in the aforementioned two countries but in other nations as well. For the time being, following the completion of the preliminary investigation, he has been remanded to Fatehpur Jail. An official from the Cyber Cell stated that should new facets of the case emerge, the accused could be re-arrested from jail via a production warrant issued by the court.

It is worth noting that over the past six months, Sourav Biswas had sent approximately 40 emails containing threats to bomb Sri Harmandir Sahib. Furthermore, the accused sent emails threatening to bomb various critical locations across the country, including the Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport, schools, bus terminals, the Sri Durgiana Temple, and railway stations.

Following an extensive investigation, the police successfully arrested Sourav Biswas. From his possession, authorities recovered over 300 email IDs along with their corresponding passwords. He had purchased all these accounts from various individuals by paying them money, subsequently using them to initiate his series of threats. Additionally, the items recovered from the accused’s possession included three CPUs, five hard disks, three mobile phones, one internet router, and 15 Hotmail accounts.
