Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, President of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), has raised serious objections regarding the functioning of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by the Punjab government in connection with the case involving the 328 holy *Swarups* (copies of the Guru Granth Sahib). He stated that the SIT is exceeding its jurisdiction and is unnecessarily interfering in the internal and administrative affairs of the Shiromani Committee. He asserted in unequivocal terms that, under the guise of an investigation, attempts are being made to undermine the constitutional status of the Sikh community’s premier religious institution—a move that cannot be accepted under any circumstances.
Advocate Dhami noted that the Shiromani Committee has cooperated with the investigation team with complete honesty and transparency right from the outset. He added that, keeping in mind the directives of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, every necessary piece of information and assistance was provided to the SIT. However, instead of appreciating this cooperation, the SIT has made the administrative and internal affairs of the Shiromani Committee a part of its own agenda.
He pointed out that the SIT is continuously demanding information that has absolutely no bearing on the case concerning the 328 holy *Swarups*. Expressing his objection, President Dhami stated that seeking details regarding the financial accounts, bank transactions, and overall financial records of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee does not fall within the jurisdiction of the SIT. He alleged that on several occasions, the SIT has dispatched its representatives to banks to gather account details, while on other occasions, detailed financial information has been sought through official correspondence. He further added that the SIT has now even sought details regarding agreements signed over a long period in the past concerning the broadcasting of *Gurbani Kirtan* via private channels—matters which, again, bear no relation to the case of the 328 holy *Swarups*.
He emphasized that information which has already been submitted to the SIT is being repeatedly demanded once again through fresh letters. He stated that all of this is being done in deviation from the fundamental objective of the investigation, and further added that the nature of the questions being asked—along with the arbitrary demands for information—suggests that the SIT may be operating with an ulterior motive, rather than conducting a genuine investigation.
