In a tragic incident that occurred on Sunday evening in the Ghavaddi-Khanpur canal area of Ludhiana, three youths lost their lives by drowning, while a fourth youth was safely rescued.
The deceased have been identified as Varinder Singh ‘Bindu’ and Vini Kumar, residents of Manjit Nagar, and Ajay Kashyap, a resident of Abdullahpur Basti. It is reported that the four youths were present near the canal. During this time, three of the youths ventured into the deep water and drowned, whereas the fourth youth was safely pulled out with the assistance of locals and a rescue team.
Upon receiving information about the incident, police and rescue teams rushed to the scene. After a strenuous effort, the bodies of the three youths were recovered from the canal. Following the accident, an atmosphere of mourning prevails in the area, and the families of the deceased are inconsolable in their grief.
According to sources, there is speculation that the youths may have been under the influence of intoxicants, although this has not been officially confirmed. Police officials state that the actual cause of the incident will only be ascertained after the post-mortem report is received.
The police have taken custody of the bodies, sent them for a post-mortem examination, and initiated an investigation into the matter. Officials have appealed to the public to exercise caution when in the vicinity of canals and other water bodies.
