Threatening emails have been sent to the Chandigarh Mayor’s office, triggering a state of alarm within the administration and security agencies. The emails contain threats to bomb several public institutions—including the Municipal Corporation, the Mayor’s office, the District Court, and railway stations—between June 3 and June 5. Upon receiving information regarding the matter, the police and security agencies immediately launched an investigation and have heightened vigilance at sensitive locations.
On Monday morning, the Mayor’s office received a suspicious email. Employing inflammatory and separatist rhetoric, the email threatened to target Municipal Corporation offices, courts, and railway stations. The message specifically warned of carrying out explosions at the Municipal Corporation, the Mayor’s office, and the District Court during the period of June 3 to June 5.
Furthermore, the message mentioned plans to execute attacks involving IEDs and grenades at railway stations and on railway tracks on June 6. Consequently, the public has been warned against undertaking rail travel. The threatening message also contained provocative remarks, making references to the events of 1984. At the conclusion of the email, the sender claimed affiliation with the ‘Khalistan National Army.’ However, investigative agencies are currently working to verify the authenticity of the email and confirm the identity of the sender.
Chandigarh Mayor Saurabh Joshi stated that threats targeting democratic institutions and public spaces cannot, under any circumstances, be taken lightly. He has called upon the Chandigarh Police and relevant security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the entire matter and take strict action against the culprits. According to sources, the police—with the assistance of the Cyber Cell—are currently tracing the source of the email and analyzing its technical details. Meanwhile, security has been significantly bolstered in the vicinity of the railway station, the court complex, and the Municipal Corporation building.
