Acting swiftly, the police have arrested two individuals in connection with a life-threatening attack on a young man in the Ranjit Avenue area of Amritsar. The police swung into action after a video of the assault—which took place recently at a snooker center in B-Block, Ranjit Avenue—went viral on social media.
Speaking to the media, the ADCP stated that upon receiving information about the incident, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Ranjit Avenue police station immediately formed teams and initiated an investigation. Within just 24 hours, the police arrested the two main accused, Sahil and Ritik, both residents of Amritsar. The ADCP revealed that preliminary investigations indicate a prior dispute between the victim, Prayas Sharma, and the accused; they had argued over an issue at a snooker center in Shakti Nagar about two months ago. The attack was carried out due to this old enmity. He also clarified that the weapon visible in the viral video was not a real firearm but a toy pistol; nevertheless, the police are investigating the matter seriously from all angles.
It is noteworthy that Prayas Sharma sustained serious injuries in the attack, including the loss of a finger. Following the incident, he was immediately hospitalized for treatment. Meanwhile, the victim’s family is demanding justice and strict action against the accused. The ADCP affirmed that the Punjab Police and Amritsar Police are committed to swiftly solving serious crimes. He appealed to city residents not to link incidents to false rumors and to cooperate with the police in creating a crime-free society.
