An incident involving gunfire outside the home of the incumbent Sarpanch of Chod Sidhwan village—falling under the jurisdiction of the Gurdaspur Sadar police station—has come to light; the attack was carried out late at night by two unidentified assailants on a motorcycle.
According to reports, one of the two unidentified attackers dismounted the motorcycle, stood directly in front of the Sarpanch’s gate, and opened fire. Two bullet marks were found on the gate, while police recovered four shell casings from the scene.
Sarpanch Manjinder Singh stated that he had returned home around midnight and heard a noise at approximately 1:30 AM, but he ignored it, assuming someone was bursting firecrackers. Upon waking up in the morning, he discovered two bullet casings inside the premises and subsequently informed the Sadar police station. Sarpanch Manjinder Singh maintained that he had never received any extortion calls, nor did he have any enmity that would warrant such an attack. DSP Shahbaz Singh and officers from the Gurdaspur Sadar police station have arrived at the scene to investigate the matter and are scanning nearby CCTV footage to identify the accused.
