A major theft has been reported at the residence of an NRI family in Sohal village, near Dhariwal in the district. Thieves broke in by dismantling the grille at the rear of the house and ransacked the entire two-story building. They spent hours searching for valuables, breaking the locks on every room and cupboard.
Upon learning of the incident, a large number of villagers gathered at the scene. Village Sarpanch Baljit Singh Sonu Sohal described the incident as extremely unfortunate, noting that such a major theft had never occurred in the village before. He urged the police to investigate the matter seriously, examine footage from nearby CCTV cameras, and question suspicious individuals. Sarabjit Singh, who was looking after the house, stated that the exact extent of the loss could only be determined after the family returned from abroad. He explained that the head of the family had gone to Canada a few days earlier to visit his daughter, where he suddenly passed away due to a heart attack. His son has also traveled from Australia to Canada for the last rites. It was during this time that thieves targeted the house.
The Station House Officer (SHO) of Dhariwal, who arrived at the scene, stated that the police are examining CCTV footage from the vicinity and investigating every aspect of the case. The exact amount of cash and valuables stolen will only be known once the family returns from abroad. However, there is talk among locals that the thieves fled with a significant quantity of goods.
