The Zirakpur Municipal Council has taken strict action against construction that deviated from approved plans and the unauthorized commercial use of designated parking areas. A council team sealed approximately 27 shops at ‘Rahmat Homes’. This move by the Municipal Council has caused a stir among those responsible for the illegal construction.
Although the approved building plans were for an ‘S+3’ (Stilt plus three-story) structure, the space originally designated for parking had been converted into shops. Municipal Council Building Inspector Shivani Goyal stated that the action was carried out under the instructions of Executive Officer Parvinder Singh Bhatti. Notices had previously been issued to the property owners, but the sealing action became necessary after no satisfactory response was received. Additionally, a showroom at ‘Prime Square’ was sealed for violating regulations.
According to council officials, converting parking areas into shops violates building bylaws and compromises public convenience and safety. The department has clarified that enforcement actions against deviations from approved plans, unauthorized commercial use, and rule violations will continue.
