A racket involved in the manufacturing and supply of spurious Ayurvedic medicines has been exposed in Dera Bassi. The police have sealed a factory and registered a case under the Copyright Act. The drug license of the factory where the counterfeit products were being manufactured had been suspended since June 1, 2026; however, a joint operation was launched following complaints that production was continuing despite this.
The case was registered based on a complaint filed by the production manager of ‘Rahat Herbal Remedies,’ a company based in Haridwar, Uttarakhand. The complaint stated that the company has been manufacturing Ayurvedic products under the ‘Noorani Tel’ and ‘Rahat’ brands for several decades.
It is alleged that individuals operating out of Hansa Park on the Dera Bassi-Barwala Road were manufacturing counterfeit goods by imitating the company’s trademarks, logos, labels, and packaging. The complainant noted that these spurious products were damaging the company’s reputation and causing a monthly financial loss of approximately ₹50 lakh.
Drug Inspector Jyoti Babbar, accompanied by a police team and company representatives, raided the factory. Large quantities of counterfeit packaging materials and labels were seized during the operation, and the factory has been sealed. The police have named several individuals in the case, including Lafiya, Arshad, Sonika, and Piyush. Authorities suspect that the network distributing these counterfeit products may extend to other cities.
