The role of former Chief Minister Beant Singh—credited with eliminating terrorism—has once again become a topic of discussion amidst the screening of the Diljit Dosanjh-starrer film “Satluj” on big screens in public spaces and Gurdwaras across Punjab’s villages.
While one section in Punjab regards Beant Singh as a martyr for ending terrorism, those with a radical mindset oppose him, labeling him a killer of Sikhs.
Bittu Spent 15 Years in the Congress
Beant Singh’s family has also consistently leveraged his sacrifice for political gain. Union Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu spent over 15 years in the Congress party and served as the President of the Punjab Youth Congress. Even after joining the BJP in 2024, he has advanced his political career by linking his grandfather’s sacrifice to the narrative of “peace and development in Punjab,” maintaining that Beant Singh does not belong to any single party.
