The Punjab government has approached the Supreme Court regarding the payment of pending Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) for its employees and pensioners. The government has challenged the Punjab and Haryana High Court’s order dated August 3, which had directed the payment of these outstanding dues.
In the Special Leave Petition (SLP) filed, the Punjab government has offered to align salaries with those of Central Government employees. It has also argued that Punjab employees are already receiving higher salaries.
Consequently, if the 60% DA applicable to Central Government employees were to be implemented and the entire amount of past arrears paid in a lump sum, it would have an adverse impact on schools, hospitals, roads, infrastructure, and other public services.
