The impact of rising inflation is now set to hit the pockets of ordinary consumers. Troubled by the constantly rising prices of cattle feed, green and dry fodder, medicines, and other essentials related to the dairy sector, dairy operators have decided to hike milk prices. According to a decision taken at a meeting of ‘The Association of Jamsher Dairy Complex, Jalandhar,’ milk prices will be increased by ₹5 per liter and ₹0.80 per ‘fat unit’ starting September 11.
Association President Manjit Singh and Vice-President Manpreet Singh Mangu stated that the meeting included a detailed discussion on the current financial situation of those involved in the dairy business. They noted that inflation is placing a heavy burden on the expenses of dairy farmers and cattle rearers. Animal feed, green and dry fodder, medicines, and other necessary supplies have become significantly more expensive than before, leading to a continuous rise in milk production costs.
They pointed out that while production costs are steadily increasing, dairy farmers and cattle rearers are facing the challenge of sustaining their businesses. Under these circumstances, supplying milk at current rates was becoming difficult for them. In light of this, the association decided to raise milk prices.
Manjit Singh and Manpreet Mangu emphasized that this decision was not made by any single individual or dairy operator but was taken collectively after extensive deliberation during the meeting. They stated that the increased production costs are directly impacting the dairy business, and if milk prices are not raised in line with these costs, it could become difficult for cattle rearers to continue in this profession. The association has appealed to all milk producers, dairy owners, and stakeholders to cooperate in implementing the new rates. Notably, this hike—effective from September 11—comes at a time when household budgets of ordinary families are already under pressure due to inflation. General Secretary Sanjay Kapoor, Cashier Hardeep Singh, Chairman Gurvinder Singh, Senior Vice President Amandeep Singh, Secretary Baldev Kapoor, Press Secretary Balvinder Singh, Joint Secretary Ranjeet Singh, Bhupinder Singh, Raj Kumar, Monu Kalyana, Gagandeep, Rakesh Kumar Yadav, and Lakhvinder Singh, along with other members, were present at the meeting.
