The menace of stray dogs in the city shows no signs of abating. On Sunday, in Lane No. 2 of New Satguru Nagar, a ferocious stray dog suddenly attacked a four-year-old boy, mauling him severely. The dog began dragging the child and inflicted multiple deep wounds on his body. Hearing the boy’s screams, locals rushed to the scene and rescued him from the dog’s clutches. The critically injured child was immediately taken to the hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment. Following the incident, there is widespread outrage among local residents against the municipal corporation administration.
According to reports, four-year-old Gaurang was visiting his maternal grandmother’s house in New Satguru Nagar with his parents. On Sunday, he was playing in the street with other neighborhood children when a stray dog roaming the area suddenly turned aggressive and lunged directly at him. The dog knocked the child to the ground and began viciously mauling his face and various parts of his body. Hearing the child’s agonizing screams, nearby shopkeepers and passersby rushed to the spot armed with sticks; after a struggle, they managed to drive the dog away and rescue the boy.
Immediately after the incident, the family rushed the blood-soaked Gaurang to a local hospital, where doctors stitched his wounds and administered anti-rabies injections to begin treatment. The young boy remains deeply traumatized following this life-threatening attack, and his family is distraught. The family stated that had the neighbors not arrived in time, a major tragedy could have occurred. Local residents allege that New Satguru Nagar and surrounding areas have long been plagued by the terror of stray dogs. As evening falls, packs of 8–10 dogs gather on main roads and lanes, chasing after pedestrians, two-wheeler riders, the elderly, and children. Local residents have strongly demanded that the municipal corporation administration launch a special drive to capture stray dogs in the area and accelerate the sterilization process, ensuring that no other innocent person or passerby has to risk their life in the future.
