In the Transport Nagar area, brazen bike-borne robbers launched a life-threatening attack on a private factory worker late at night using a sharp-edged weapon known as a ‘daat’ (a type of sickle or billhook). The assailants chased him and struck him while he was riding, causing him to lose his balance and fall onto the road. Subsequently, the robbers brutally attacked the fallen man on his face and body before fleeing with his bike, mobile phone, and wristwatch. The critically injured victim lay soaked in blood near the Dhandari railway crossing all night. His family was informed the next morning with the help of a passerby, after which he was admitted to ESI Hospital in serious condition.
Abhimanyu Rai, currently undergoing treatment at the hospital, recounted that the incident occurred around 11:30 PM on Sunday. He was leaving Transport Nagar when two unidentified men on a motorcycle began tailing him. Sensing danger, he accelerated and sped towards the Dhandari railway station in a bid to save his life. After chasing him for some distance, the assailants attacked him directly with the ‘daat’ while he was still riding. Struck by the deep blow, Abhimanyu lost his balance and fell heavily onto the road. As soon as he fell, the two robbers surrounded him and rained blows on his face and various parts of his body with the sharp weapon. After leaving the young man bloodied and near-dead, the miscreants snatched his motorcycle, mobile phone, and wristwatch, fleeing under the cover of darkness. Before leaving, they abandoned the critically injured Abhimanyu near the railway crossing close to Dhandari railway station. Due to severe blood loss and critical injuries following the assault, Abhimanyu was unable to get up and spent the entire night writhing in pain. The next morning, a passerby spotted him. Acting promptly, a passerby searched Abhimanyu’s pockets and contacted his family using a phone number found on an identity card. Upon receiving the news, the distraught family rushed to the scene and immediately took him to ESI Hospital for treatment; doctors report that his condition remains critical. The Sherpur police post team swung into action as soon as they were informed of the incident. Police officials visited the hospital to assess the injured man’s condition. The police stated that CCTV footage from the entire route—stretching from Transport Nagar to the Dhandari railway crossing—is being meticulously examined to identify the robbers’ bike number and obtain clues regarding their appearance. Authorities have pledged to register a case against the perpetrators under serious charges and ensure they are put behind bars soon.
