Mayor Saurabh Joshi has sought permission from the Administrator to take stern action against the drug trade in the city. The Mayor stated that if the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and the Police Department fail to take action against drug dealers, he should be authorized to do so himself; he intends to have bulldozers run over the homes of those involved in the drug trade.
The Mayor attended an event held at the Sector-17 Plaza as part of the 9th National Nutrition Month, themed “Say No to Drugs, Embrace a Bright Future.” He noted that the event aimed to raise awareness among the youth about staying away from drugs and adopting a healthy lifestyle. During the program, NSS volunteers from schools performed a street play (nukkad natak) to highlight the adverse effects of drug abuse. The play conveyed a message urging the youth to avoid falling prey to drugs and to help spread awareness within society.
NSS volunteers also participated in the event. Dignitaries present included Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria, Home Secretary Mandeep Brar, and Special Secretary (Municipal Corporation) Harpreet Singh Sudan, along with other officials.
