Aadhaar ‘Architect’ Nandan Nilekani Receives SIR Notice; Action Taken After Name Missing from Voter List

Date:

Notices have been issued under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process to several prominent figures, including Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani, Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath, and actor Shiva Rajkumar.

According to media reports, officials stated on Wednesday that the names of these individuals were previously marked as ‘unmapped’ in electoral records.

Nandan Nilekani’s Name Flagged in SIR
Officials from the Bengaluru South City Corporation (BSCC) stated that the names of Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani and his family members are among those listed in the Election Commission’s notices issued under the ‘no-mapping’ category.

These notices were issued because details regarding their names were not found in the 2002 voter list. It remains unclear from available information whether these notices have actually been delivered to Nilekani or his family.

BSCC Commissioner Ramesh KN stated that officials would investigate any discrepancies in the records and rectify them—where necessary—without the need to issue formal notices.

Karnataka’s draft voter list was released on Monday, August 24. According to this list, the names of over ten million (one crore) people have been removed from the electoral rolls.

Discrepancies were also found in the cases of Infosys co-founder and EkStep Foundation Chairman Nandan Nilekani, as well as Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath.

Kannada film actor Shiva Rajkumar’s name was also flagged regarding the 2002 voter list, and the system generated a notice for a hearing.

However, he was not required to visit the GBA office with documents; election officials conducted the verification at his residence.

Special Arrangements for VIPs in SIR
A senior Election Commission official stated, “We have a provision that allows VIPs to complete the process without having to attend a hearing.” The concerned BLO will visit their homes to complete this process.

This category includes judges, Members of Parliament (MPs) and Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs), senior leaders, bureaucrats, and personalities from the fields of sports and cinema.

EC’s clarification regarding the notice sent to Prof. CNR Rao
The Election Commission (EC) clarified that a discrepancy had been found in the name of the renowned scientist and Bharat Ratna awardee Prof. CNR Rao in Bengaluru’s electoral records. Following the controversy that arose over this matter, the EC issued a clarification on Wednesday. Citing its Chief Commissioner and Bengaluru Urban District Election Officer M. Maheshwar Rao, the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) stated, “No notice has been issued to Bharat Ratna awardee Prof. CNR Rao in connection with the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list for the Malleshwaram Assembly constituency.”

The GBA stated, “A discrepancy was observed in the name of this distinguished individual in the voter list. In view of this, the Booth Level Officer (BLO)—recognizing him as an eminent personality—has recommended including his name in the final voter list without issuing any notice.”
