A young man was beaten to death on Sunday afternoon at Kalichaura Dera in the Semri area following a long-standing land dispute. Angered by the incident and demanding the arrest of the accused, the victim’s family blocked the Nagra-Garwar road near the Kali Mata temple. Police arrived at the scene and tried to pacify the crowd. The situation was resolved only after the Circle Officer (CO) of Rasra, Rajnish Kumar, arrived and informed them that four individuals had been taken into custody.
A land dispute has been ongoing for some time between the families of Niranjan Yadav and Ramkeval Yadav at Kalichaura Dera. The two parties are relatives (co-sharers), and a dispute had previously occurred over a plot of approximately 12 *katthas* of land situated between their homes. On Sunday afternoon, Sonu Yadav—son of Ramkeval Yadav—was summoned by the opposing relatives to connect a power line from an electric pole. It is alleged that during this time, members of Niranjan’s family grabbed him and beat him severely with sticks and clubs. Sonu sustained critical injuries to his abdomen and head. His family immediately rushed him to the Nagra Primary Health Centre, but doctors referred him to the District Hospital due to his critical condition. He passed away upon arrival at the District Hospital. News of the youth’s death sparked outrage among his family and fellow villagers. Around 4 PM, they blocked the Nagra-Garwar road to demand the arrest of the accused.
Station House Officer (SHO) Sanjay Kumar Mishra arrived at the scene with a police force and attempted to reason with the women and villagers. Despite police assurances of strict action, the crowd remained adamant on demanding immediate arrests. Upon receiving news of the road blockade, CO Rasra Rajnish Kumar arrived at the site.
He instructed the SHO to take necessary action and informed the family that four individuals had been taken into custody in connection with the case. Assurances of strict action were given, following which the police managed to clear the traffic jam after considerable effort. A police force remained deployed at the scene. Upon receiving news of Sonu’s death, his mother and sisters also arrived at the spot.
They remained on the road, weeping and wailing while demanding strict action against the accused. Police personnel tried to reason with them for a long time before the women finally moved away from the road. A large number of villagers, including former village head Deepak Singh, were present during this time. Sonu’s father, Ramkeval, runs a milk business; he has three sisters who are married.
