The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has stepped up its efforts to improve facilities at Chhath Puja sites across the city. In a significant move, the civic body has increased the budget allocated for Chhath Puja arrangements by five times, underlining its focus on providing better infrastructure and convenience to devotees.
Chhath Puja is one of the most important festivals for people from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, and other regions. A large number of devotees living in Chandigarh and surrounding areas observe the festival with traditional rituals and prayers dedicated to the Sun God and Chhathi Maiya.
During the festival, devotees gather at water bodies, designated ghats, and other celebration sites to perform religious rituals. The arrangements at these locations play an important role in ensuring that the celebrations take place smoothly and safely.
With the fivefold increase in the budget, the Municipal Corporation is focusing on strengthening basic facilities at Chhath Puja locations. These arrangements are expected to include improved cleanliness, sanitation, lighting, drinking water facilities, and better management of the designated sites.
The civic body’s initiative is aimed at making the festival more convenient for devotees, particularly women, elderly people, and families who visit the ghats to perform traditional rituals.
Chhath Puja involves offering prayers to the setting and rising Sun. Devotees observe fasting and gather near water bodies during the evening and morning rituals. Therefore, proper arrangements at these locations are essential for public convenience and safety.
The increased allocation also reflects the growing importance of Chhath Puja celebrations in Chandigarh, where a significant population from eastern and northern Indian states participates in the festival.
The Municipal Corporation’s focus on improving facilities is expected to provide relief to devotees and help ensure better arrangements during the celebrations.
Now, attention will be on how effectively the allocated budget is utilised and whether the promised improvements are implemented at all designated Chhath Puja sites.
With the budget increased fivefold, devotees will be expecting cleaner, safer, and better-equipped celebration venues this year.
