There is a delay in the selection of the leader of the opposition in Haryana. However, the post of the leader of the opposition will not remain vacant for long in the state. Former Chief Minister Bhupendra Singh Hooda is a strong contender for the leader of the opposition. Top Congress leaders are busy with the Delhi Assembly elections. Due to internal conflicts, not many party leaders from Haryana have been assigned duty in the Delhi elections.
The budget session of the Haryana Assembly, which begins in the last week of February, is likely to run with the leader of the opposition. Nearly three months have passed since the BJP government was formed, but the Congress has not been able to select the leader of the opposition yet. Top Congress leaders are busy with the Delhi Assembly elections.
After the voting there on February 5 and the election results on February 8, the Congress leaders will focus on Haryana. Former Chief Minister Bhupendra Singh Hooda has indicated that after the Delhi elections, the organization of Haryana Congress will also be ready and the decision on the leader of the opposition is also possible.
Hooda is a strong contender for the leader of the opposition
Bhupendra Singh Hooda, who has been the Chief Minister twice, is a strong contender for the leader of the opposition. Hooda was the leader of the opposition in the previous BJP government as well. This time due to factionalism among Congress leaders, Congress was deprived of power in Haryana and BJP succeeded in forming the government for the third time.
Top Congress leaders are angry with the factionalism among Haryana leaders and have left Haryana Congress on its own for the time being. State in-charge Deepak Babaria and state president Chaudhary Udaybhan are at loggerheads over the party’s defeat. Former Chief Minister Bhupendra Singh Hooda and former Union Minister Kumari Selja have not yet reconciled.
Internal strife in Congress is not ending
Due to internal strife, not many party leaders from Haryana have been assigned duty in Delhi elections. In place of Bhupendra Singh Hooda, his MP son Deepender Singh Hooda has been made the star campaigner by Congress in Delhi elections, while Randeep Surjewala and Kumari Selja have been appointed as star campaigners from the anti-Hooda camp.
All senior leaders including Haryana Congress in-charge Deepak Babaria and state president Chaudhary Udaybhan have been kept away from Delhi elections. Bhupendra Singh Hooda has indirectly taken charge of Congress’ victory in Delhi. Continuous meetings of Congress leaders, MPs and MLAs are going on at the Delhi residence of former Chief Minister Bhupendra Hooda.
Hooda is attacking AAP and BJP in Delhi and during the conversation, remembering the tenure of Sheila Dikshit, he is claiming that Delhi has developed during the time of Congress, after that no party has worried about Delhi.
‘Delay in the election of state president is not a big deal’
Bhupendra Hooda Bhupendra Singh Hooda says that in Karnataka, BJP had also selected the leader of opposition after many months. If there is a delay in Haryana, then it is not a big deal. Let us tell you that Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini has called a meeting of the Haryana Cabinet on February 23, in which the date of the budget session will be announced.
It is expected that the budget session of the Haryana Assembly can begin from February 14 and the state budget can come on February 21. Hooda has indicated that after the Delhi elections and before the budget session, a strong organization of the Congress will also be ready and the leader of the opposition will also be selected.
