This time a historic change will be seen in the Republic Day celebrations in Chandigarh. Under the new order of the Central Government, Chandigarh Chief Secretary IAS Rajiv Verma will hoist the tricolor in the Republic Day celebrations organized at the Parade Ground in Sector 17 on January 26. This will be the first time when an officer working in the post of Chief Secretary in Chandigarh will hoist the flag on Republic Day.
The central government has recently changed the post of Advisor under major administrative reforms in the Chandigarh Administration and now it has been converted into the post of Chief Secretary. After this, Rajiv Verma was appointed the first Chief Secretary of Chandigarh.
There was a controversy regarding this post
In January, the post of Advisor to the Chandigarh Administrator was changed to the post of Chief Secretary. Which was termed unnecessary by the Punjab Government and expressed anger against this decision of the Center. They said that if Chandigarh belongs to Punjab, then why two Chief Secretaries in one state. That is why this post has also been in controversies.
But now this change is being considered an important step in the history of Chandigarh administration, as it will provide new direction and structure at the administrative level. The appointment of Rajiv Verma will further strengthen the administrative matters in Chandigarh and it is expected that administrative work will also be accelerated and improved.
Earlier, the task of flag hoisting on Republic Day was done by the Adviser to the Administrator. But this time the Chief Secretary will lead the flag hoisting and the salute of the parade.
