Chandigarh Mayor Election: Only a few hours are left for the mayoral elections. It will be known on January 30 who will be the new mayor of the city. After Congress councilor Gurbaksh Rawat joined the BJP, the Congress-AAP alliance is now afraid of their two to three votes being crossed.
To prevent this, even the phones of the councilors are being monitored. The phones are being collected and kept in one place. AAP councilors visited Kikar Lounge in Ropar and Congress councilors visited Tila Baba Farid Gurudwara Sahib in Faridkot. They are also present in Punjab. At the same time, AAP councilors are under the surveillance of Punjab Police. Senior leaders are also keeping an eye on Congress councilors.
Anpu Gupta became deputy mayor by drawing a slip when there was a tie
With Gurbaksh Rawat joining the BJP, his vote count increased to 16 and Congress councilors have come down from seven to six. At the same time, AAP has 13 councilors. One vote will be of the MP. The alliance has 20 votes. If the votes are not cross voted, the victory of the AAP-Congress alliance is still certain.
The alliance still has a lead of four votes. If three votes are cross voted, the BJP can snatch the post of mayor. If two votes are cross voted, both will have 18 votes each. In this situation, slips with the names of both the candidates will be put in.
The one whose name is drawn on the slip will become the mayor. This has happened two years ago. BJP’s Anoop Gupta was lucky in this way and became the deputy mayor.
Preparations for elections in the corporation house
Elections are to be held on 30th. For this, preparations have started in the corporation house. CCTV cameras are being installed. Their locations, battery backup and all other arrangements are being fixed.
