BJP’s Harpreet Babla has become the new mayor of Chandigarh Municipal Corporation. She won the election by 2 votes after cross voting. The BJP candidate got 19 votes. At the same time, Prem Lata, the candidate of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress alliance, got 17 votes.
In the mayor election, BJP had the support of only 16 councilors. At the same time, AAP had 13 and Congress had 6, besides 20 votes including one MP Manish Tiwari. AAP + Congress alliance had an absolute majority. Despite this, their candidate lost.
It is clear from the result of the mayor election that here 3 votes of the AAP-Congress alliance have been in favor of BJP. There was rigging in the mayor election held in 2023. Then the election officer had put a cross on the votes, due to which the BJP candidate won. All this was captured in CCTV. The Supreme Court heard the case and ordered a re-counting. After this, Kuldeep Teeta of AAP was declared victorious.

While BJP candidate Bimla Dubey got 17 votes. Apart from this, Taruna Mehta of Congress became Deputy Mayor. She got 19 votes. While BJP candidate Lakhbir Singh got 17 votes.
