Haryana’s Rekha in the race for Delhi CM chair: She has been a mayor, has been associated with RSS since college days; if this happens, she will be the only woman CM of BJP in 21 states

Date:

Rekha Gupta Jindal, a resident of Jind in Haryana, is in the race for the new CM of Delhi. Rekha was elected MLA from Shalimar Bagh seat in the Delhi Assembly elections held this month. She defeated AAP’s Vandana Kumari by 29,595 votes. Rekha entered politics from her student life. She has been associated with Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and BJP since the beginning. Currently, she is the General Secretary of Delhi BJP and National Vice President of BJP Mahila Morcha.

BJP has won the election with majority in Delhi after 27 years. After which BJP or its alliance is in power in 21 states of the country. However, there is no woman Chief Minister anywhere right now. In such a situation, BJP can play the card of a woman CM in Delhi. Earlier, AAP had also made Atishi the Chief Minister. BJP had earlier also made Sushma Swaraj the CM of Delhi.

When it came to making a woman Chief Minister, Shikha Rai’s name was also there against Rekha. Shikha has defeated AAP’s veteran leader Saurabh Bhardwaj. However, among the 4 women MLAs of BJP in Delhi, Rekha of Jind is the most experienced. Rekha’s claim is also considered strong because BJP stalwarts like PM Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari and Haryana CM Nayab Saini had campaigned for her.

Ancestral village in Julana, shifted to Delhi when father became bank manager

Rekha Gupta’s ancestral village Nandgarh is in Jind’s Julana area. Her grandfather Maniram and family members lived here. Rekha’s schooling, graduation and LLB studies were done in Delhi itself.

Earlier had a shop in the village, then worked as a commission agent

Balwan Nambardar of Nandgarh village of Julana tells that till about 50 years ago, Rekha’s grandfather Maniram Jindal and great grandfather Gangaram lived in the village itself. They had a shop in the village. After this, he opened a commission agent shop in Julana and shifted there with his family.

Built a Shiva temple in the village, grandfather visits the village every month

Naveen Fauji of Nandgarh village tells that his small brick-made mansion was bought by Chandram of the same village. After which he built his house there. Naveen Fauji of the village further tells that the people of Jindal family have also built a Shiva temple in the village. Every year the family members come here for worship. Rekha’s father Jai Bhagwan’s uncle Rajendra visits the village every month. Rekha’s family had good relations in the village.

Grandfather said – Rekha came into politics from student life itself

Rekha’s grandfather Rajendra Jindal tells that his brother Maniram has three sons. The eldest son among them is Ramrishi, the younger one is Jai Bhagwan and the youngest is Sushil. He had a commission agent shop in Julana in the name of Ganga Ram, Kashi Ram. Rekha was born on 19 July 1974. Rekha became active in politics from student life itself.

Married to a spare parts businessman in 1998

Rekha married Manish Gupta in 1998. Manish runs a spare parts business. Rajendra said that Rekha had contested assembly elections twice before. The first time she lost by 11 thousand votes and in the last election she lost to Aam Aadmi Party’s Vandana by four and a half thousand votes.
