Punjab government has taken a big action after Delhi elections. Today on 17th February, in a big administrative reshuffle, Vigilance chief Special DGP Varinder Kumar was removed from the post. Also, ADGP G Nageshwar Rao has been given the responsibility of Vigilance chief in his place. Muktsar DC has been suspended. Abhijeet Kaplish has been appointed as the new DC of Muktsar in his place. This action has been taken after receiving a complaint of corruption. Vigilance has been ordered to take action in the case of corruption.
Two days ago, the Punjab government had issued an order ordering the heads of all departments, DC, SSP that no kind of corruption will be tolerated. Removing the Vigilance Chief is a big action in this context. Punjab government can take more such strict action in the coming days.
Varinder Kumar will report to DGP office
According to the information, G Nageshwar is a 1995 batch IPS officer. However, he is junior to Varinder Kumar. After removing Varinder Kumar from the post of Vigilance Chief, no new appointment has been given yet. At present, he has been ordered to report to the DGP Office Punjab. The Home Department of the Punjab Government has issued orders in this regard.
Questions were raised on the acquittal of two ministers
Varinder Kumar was posted in the Vigilance Bureau in May 2022 by the Punjab Government. Under his leadership, the Bureau was doing a very good job. The Vigilance Bureau had exposed many big scams during the time of the last Congress regime. It included many cases including tender scam, industrial plot scam, forest scam. At the same time, Vigilance had put many people involved in corruption behind bars. However, former minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu was acquitted in the tender scam and Sundar Sham Arora in the industrial plot scam. The court had dismissed the FIR registered in this case.
