Haryana Chief Secretary Dr Vivek Joshi has been appointed as Election Commissioner in the Election Commission of India. Dr Vivek Joshi, a senior IAS officer of 1989 batch, became the Chief Secretary of Haryana in November last year. Now a new Chief Secretary will be appointed in his place. Dr Joshi has earlier held the responsibility of the post of Secretary in the Union Finance Ministry.
Haryana Chief Secretary Dr Vivek Joshi will now be the Election Commissioner in the Election Commission of India. Vivek Joshi, a senior IAS officer of 1989 batch, took over as the Chief Secretary of Haryana after returning from deputation from the Central Government on November 1 last year. With the appointment of Dr Vivek Joshi in the Election Commission of India, now a new Chief Secretary will be appointed in Haryana.
These officers are in the race for the Chief Secretary of Haryana
Any of the five officers of the 1990 batch can be given this responsibility. The most senior among them are Sudhir Rajpal and Dr Sumita Mishra. Apart from this, Anurag Rastogi, Anand Mohan Sharan and Raja Shekhar Wundru of 1990 batch are in the race to become Chief Secretary.
However, Anurag Rastogi will retire on June 30 and Anand Mohan Sharan on August 31. In such a situation, any one of Sudhir Rajpal, Dr. Sumita Mishra and Raja Shekhar Wundru can be appointed for the post of Chief Secretary.
Vivek Joshi has handled this responsibility
Vivek Joshi, who was on deputation at the Center for a long time, was handling the responsibility of Secretary of the Department of Personnel and Training after taking up the responsibility of the post of Secretary in the Union Finance Ministry before becoming the Chief Secretary of Haryana.
Earlier, he served as the Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India under the Union Home Ministry for four years. He has also been a member of the board of the Reserve Bank of India and the country’s largest bank, State Bank of India. Worked as Director in the Ministry of Textiles (2001-2006).
Dr Joshi is in PM Modi’s good books
Joshi, who is in PM Modi’s good books, has held many important positions besides the Principal Secretary of Haryana. Joshi, who has worked as Deputy Commissioner in various districts of Haryana, as well as Principal Secretary of Monitoring and Coordination and CEO of Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority, was Joint Secretary in the Union Finance Ministry in 2014-2017.
At that time he used to advise the government in preparing the public procurement policy. Prior to this, he has also worked as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Women and Child Development (2010-2014) of the Central Government. He did a lot of work in the field of child rights and child protection.
Did PhD in International Economics from Switzerland
Dr Vivek Joshi’s home state is Uttar Pradesh, where he was born on 21 May 1966. He has obtained a PhD degree in International Economics from Switzerland’s Graduate Institute Geneva. Joshi completed his doctorate under the guidance of Professor Richard Baldwin. Apart from this, he did BE in Mechanical Engineering in 1987 from Roorkee University. He has done post graduation in International Business from New Delhi.
