The demand survey conducted by Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) for self-financing housing scheme in Sector-53 has received tremendous response. More than 500 applications have been received in just 4 days. This has raised hopes that this scheme can be started again. The administration had put this project on hold in 2023.
CHB will launch this scheme only when enough people show interest in it and get the necessary approval. To participate in this survey, applicants will have to deposit 10 thousand for HIG and MIG flats and 5 thousand for EWS flats.
If the scheme starts, this amount will be adjusted. But if no one proceeds, this amount will be confiscated. If the scheme is implemented, it will include 192 High-Income Group (HIG) flats, 100 Middle-Income Group (MIG) flats and 80 EWS flats.
Plan to restart the scheme
In a recent meeting, CHB officials gave a presentation to UT Chief Secretary and Board Chairman Rajiv Verma regarding restarting the scheme. Verma had instructed the officials to conduct a demand survey again. Earlier in 2018 also such a survey was conducted.
Now after the completion of the survey, the final report will be submitted to the Governor of Punjab and UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria.
Scheme canceled in 2018 and brakes applied in 2023
CHB has been trying to restart this stalled scheme for the last 7 years. In August 2023, the then UT Administrator Banwarilal Purohit stopped this housing scheme calling it unnecessary. Due to this, on August 2, 2023, tenders worth Rs 200 crore issued for the construction of 372 flats were canceled.
Earlier in 2018 also this scheme was canceled due to high prices. At that time the prices of flats were very high, due to which only 178 applications were received for 492 flats. Now in 2023 it has been introduced with new rates.
