On International Women’s Day, a state level program is being organized today at Red Bishop Hotel in Panchkula. Here CM Naib Singh Saini will honor women power in various categories. Among those honored by the government, Shanta Ranga of Karnal will be given the Sushma Swaraj Award, which includes a sum of Rs 5 lakh.
At the same time, Bala Verma of Hisar and Rekha Rani Dhiman of Jind will be given the Indira Gandhi Mahila Shakti Award. Meenu Devi of Hansi is to be given the Kalpana Chawla Shaurya Award. While, the Life Time Achievement Award will be given to Kamlesh Arora of Ambala.

For their excellent performance in sports, Sonika from Bhiwani, Kusum from Jind, Manu Bhaker from Jhajjar, Rhythm Sangwan from Faridabad, Ramita Jindal from Kurukshetra, Antim Panghal from Hisar, Preeti Panwar from Bhiwani, Bhajan Kaur from Sirsa, Vinesh Phogat from Charkhi Dadri, Anshu Malik from Jind, Ritika Hooda from Rohtak, Nisha Dahiya from Panipat, Jasmine Lamboria from Bhiwani, Diksha Dagar from Jhajjar, Kiran Pahal from Sonipat, Raza Dhillon from Panchkula will be honoured.
These women will be honoured in social sector
Rita Dhiman, Banarasi Devi, Poonam and Dr. Vinita Tomar will be honoured for working in social sector. In the category of women entrepreneur, Pinky Devi from Jind and Sakshi from Gurugram were honoured. Apart from this, Anganwadi workers and girls who are honoured on National Girl Child Day will also be honoured on Women’s Day.
Ranga has been a classmate of Sushma Swaraj
Social worker advocate Shanta Ranga is a resident of Karnal. Ranga has represented India in 1980 in Sofia, Bulgaria and in 1995 in the World Peace Conference in Kathmandu. She has also received the Glory of India Award from Friendship Society. Shanta Ranga was born on 15 June 1943. She studied law from Punjab University. Her classmate was former Union Minister late Sushma Swaraj.
She raised her voice against child labour, sexual exploitation of women at work place and bonded labour. She went among the poor and connected them with education. She worked to push young women towards self-employment.
Meenu Kaliraman has received the Shaurya Award
Mountaineer Meenu Kaliramana, a resident of Narnaund Data village, will be honored with the Kalpana Chawla Shaurya Award. This award is being given to Meenu for hoisting the tricolor by risking her life. Meenu had applied for this in November 2024. Meenu had conquered the world’s highest peak Mount Everest and Mount Lahilse together.
Who is Bala Verma
Bala Verma, director of Bhagyashree Mahila Ashram, has received the Indira Gandhi Mahila Shakti Award. On Saturday, Women’s Day in Chandigarh, Nayav Singh Saini will honor Bala. Bala and his companions are taking care of mentally challenged women in the ashram. In this ashram running in Geeta Colony, Azad Nagar, such women are rescued and left by the police and administration. So far she has reunited 161 women with their families.
Manu is the only athlete to win two medals
Manu Bhaker, a resident of Jhajjar in Haryana, is the only athlete to win two medals in the same Olympics. She won two gold medals for India in the 2018 ISSF World Cup. She is the youngest Indian woman to win gold in this competition. Manu won two gold medals in the air pistol event at the 2018 Commonwealth Games at the age of just 16.
Rhythm started shooting at the age of 13
Rhythm Sangwan of Faridabad started shooting at the age of 13. The sound of bullets excited her like watching Hrithik Roshan’s stunt action. Rhythm not only adopted shooting but also dedicated her life to it, leaving her first love tennis. Due to which Rhythm has won 56 medals in just 8 years. These include 32 international medals including the Asian Games gold medal.
