The football stadium built at a cost of Rs 10 crore in Sector-17 of Chandigarh has not been repaired yet. Due to which questions are being raised on the working style of the Sports Department. But the department has now started planning to build an international football stadium in Sports Complex-46.
The question is being raised that when the already built stadium is lying unused, then why are crores of rupees being spent on new construction.
Refused to take over
The Engineering and Sports Department had claimed to build an international level football stadium in Sector-17, but after flaws in the construction came to light, the Sports Department refused to take over. The administration should investigate this and take action against those who are at fault. But now it has been declared an urban park.
Now the Sports Department has started preparations for a new football stadium in Sports Complex-46. For this, a proposal has been sent to the Urban Planning Department. After the drawing is ready, it will be decided whether the basketball and volleyball courts present here will be removed or not.
Players will be affected
Football, athletics, volleyball and basketball centres are already running in Sports Complex-46, where hundreds of players practice. If a new football stadium is built, these players will have to be shifted to another place.
