President Draupadi Murmu reached Punjab University on Wednesday. She attended the 72nd convocation of the university as the chief guest. In this ceremony, medals, awards and degrees were given to the students who passed the examination in 2024. President Draupadi Murmu honored shooter Manu Bhaker and said that Bhaker has brought glory to the country, similarly the young generation should bring glory to the country. Apart from this, the President congratulated everyone. During this, Haryana Governor Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann were also present.
President Murmu will be the 6th President of the country to deliver the convocation speech at PU. Earlier, Pranab Mukherjee, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, Giani Zail Singh, Neelam Sanjeev Reddy and Dr. Rajendra Prasad have also delivered convocation speeches here.
Tight security arrangements
In view of the President’s visit, Chandigarh Police is fully alert. DGP Surendra Singh Yadav has held a meeting with officials regarding security. Police checking has been increased in the university campus. Apart from the main route, an additional route has also been fixed for the President’s convoy, so that it can be used in case of any emergency.
Honorary degrees and honors
Many famous personalities will be honored in the convocation. Dr. R.J. Hansgill and Kamlesh D. Patel will be given Doctor of Science (Honorary Degree). Nivedita Raghunath Bhide will get Doctor of Literature (Honorary Degree). Apart from this, these personalities will be given special awards for contributing in various fields.
