Aam Aadmi Party MP Malvinder Singh Kang on Tuesday moved an adjournment motion in the Lok Sabha and raised the issue of drug smuggling through drones on the India-Pakistan International Border in Punjab. Emphasizing the need for collective action, he demanded a discussion in Parliament on measures to deal with the increasing smuggling of drugs and illegal weapons in the state.
Demanded the central government to secure the border
Kang said that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is running a comprehensive campaign against drugs in the state, so it is necessary for the central government to also step up its efforts to secure the international border. Smuggling of drugs and illegal weapons through drones is a serious threat to both the youth of Punjab and national security.
Kang said that Punjab is playing its role against drugs, but the security of the border comes under the jurisdiction of the central government. It is their responsibility to prevent the entry of drugs and weapons. The BSF should be provided with advanced technology and resources to prevent drones and illegal smuggling.
‘Centre should coordinate with Punjab government’
He said that the Central Government should work in coordination with Punjab to eliminate drug abuse. The future of the youth of Punjab depends on our joint efforts.
He said that the Centre cannot remain silent while the state government fights this battle. The adjournment motion reflects the commitment of the Aam Aadmi Party to tackle the problem of drug abuse and ensure a drug-free Punjab.
Written letter to Home Minister several times
Kang said that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has written to the Union Home Minister several times urging decisive action to curb drug smuggling across the border, so the Centre should take this issue seriously and take appropriate steps for it. Security of Punjab’s borders is not just the responsibility of Punjab, but is a matter of national importance.
