In Haryana, which has a population of about two crore 88 lakh, the number of families living below the poverty line (BPL) has reached close to 52 lakh. If the average number of four persons in a family is considered as the basis, then more than two crore people in the state have come under the BPL category.
Five-year report sought from the government
There has been a controversy over the number of BPL in Haryana for the last several months. The opposition has been cornering the government over the report of the Civil Resources Information Department.
On Wednesday, Congress MLA Pooja raised this issue in the Assembly and sought a five-year report from the government. The Congress MLA sought answers on the number of BPL in five years and the efforts made by the government in this direction.
State Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Krishna Kumar Bedi, in response to this, said that in the year 2020-21, the number of BPL families in the state was eight lakh 67 thousand 328.
In the year 2021-22, it increased to eight lakh 78 thousand 329. After this, the government formed the Citizen Resource Information Department in the state, according to whose report, the number of BPL families increased to 32 lakh 69 thousand 29 in the year 2022-23.
According to the report, the number of BPL families in Haryana reached 44 lakh 91 thousand 12 in the year 2023-24. During the year 2024-25, the number of BPL families in Haryana has been recorded as 51 lakh 83 thousand 253.
Aditya Surjewala raised the issue of migration of youth
At the same time, Congress MLA Aditya Surjewala raised questions in the assembly session about the youth migrating abroad, Haryana Skill Employment Corporation recruitment, rights of employees and players.
He said that today the state is number one in unemployment. In search of employment, the youth are selling their land and investing Rs 40-40 lakh and migrating to foreign countries. Even after going abroad, they are not getting jobs.
Many youths are dying and some are being tortured there. The relatives of those who die there have to pay lakhs of rupees again to bring their bodies back to India.
No help is being provided by the BJP government. He said that youths are being deported from America, those who have gone on work visa are also being tortured. They are being sent in handcuffs, shackles and chains like criminals.
Aditya Surjewala said that the government is deceiving the youth under HKRN. It was not told in the House that if someone gets a job under HKRN in 2024, he will get the benefit after 2029 i.e. after the next assembly elections.
Ever since this law was introduced, 350 employees have been removed from their jobs from Kaithal and Kurukshetra alone. They are removed before the completion of five years so that they cannot be made permanent under the policy. He said that in Haryana, players and coaches did not get the full prize money after the year 2021. Not only this, the players who win medals also have to wander from door to door for jobs.
