The executive of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) will meet in Chandigarh today. A decision can be taken on the resignation of Pradhan Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami in the meeting. This is the first meeting of the SGPC after the removal of the Jathedars. There is a discussion that in this meeting, Dhami’s resignation can be accepted and an acting Pradhan can be appointed, because Dhami has already made it clear that he will not remain on the post of Pradhan.
Acting Pradhan is also necessary because
Many big leaders of the Akali Dal had met Dhami at his residence several days ago. The possibility of the committee accepting Dhami’s resignation and appointing a new acting Pradhan is also considered strong because the budget session of the SGPC will be held on March 28. According to the Gurdwara Act, the Pradhan presides over this session. If there is no one on the post of Pradhan, then the responsibility of the acting Pradhan is handed over to the Senior Deputy Pradhan.
Such a situation has arisen before
Such a situation had also arisen in 1999, when Jathedar Gurcharan Singh Tohra resigned from his post. At that time, the responsibility was given to the then Vice President Alwinder Singh Pakhoke. However, the situation will become completely clear only after the meeting.
Sant Tek Singh Dhanaula did not take charge
The new Jathedar Kuldeep Singh Gadgaj appointed by the SGPC has taken charge as the acting Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib and Jathedar of Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib. At the same time, Jathedar Sant Tek Singh Dhanaula appointed for Sri Damdama Sahib has not taken charge yet.
