There is a preparation to increase electricity rates in Haryana. The power corporations have sought permission from the Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission to increase electricity charges in the new financial year to deal with the loss of Rs 4520 crore. Currently, South Haryana Electricity Distribution Corporation has a line loss of 12.37 percent and North Haryana Electricity Distribution Corporation has a line loss of 9.15 percent.
After the Fuel Surcharge Adjustment (FSA) was extended for one year in Haryana, now there is a preparation for a slight increase in electricity rates. North and South Haryana Electricity Distribution Corporation have sought permission from the Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission (HERC) to increase electricity charges in the new financial year to deal with the loss of Rs 4520 crore.
According to sources, power corporations may get permission for a slight increase in electricity tariff. The new electricity rates in the state will come into effect from April 1. Electricity rates have not been increased for two years. Last time in the year 2022-23, 25 paise per unit was increased for up to 150 units.
Hike in electricity duty tariff may be approved
At present, South Haryana Electricity Distribution Corporation has 12.37 percent line loss and North Haryana Electricity Distribution Corporation has 9.15 percent line loss. HERC Chairman Nand Lal Sharma has already directed to increase operational efficiency and reduce the difference between average supply cost (ACC) and average revenue recovery (ARR).
According to sources, while the power corporations have been asked to improve efficiency, a partial increase in the electricity duty tariff may be approved by giving some relief.
FSA of Rs 94.47 on consumption of electricity over 200 units
The state government has already extended the FSA till the year 2026. Consumers will have to pay 47 paise extra FSA per unit electricity bill. Rs 94.47 extra will have to be paid on consumption of electricity over 200 units. The reason for this decision is being told to be the increasing defaulting amount on the power corporations. However, consumers who consume less than 200 units of electricity will not have to pay FSA.
