Police in Chandigarh have arrested 9 drug smugglers who were supplying drugs by importing them from Pakistan. Police have arrested 9 accused including the mastermind of the gang and recovered about 312.71 grams of heroin, Rs 5.12 lakh drug money, 2 Ertiga cars and an electric scooter.
The main accused Gurmeet Singh, resident of Jalalabad, Punjab has been arrested. Apart from this, accused Satnam Singh has already been caught with 70 kg of heroin.
Raids in 3 states
A team was formed under the supervision of DSP Dheeraj to arrest the drug smugglers, due to which the Crime Branch arrested 2 drug peddlers Balkar Singh and Navneet Kaur and recovered 35.17 grams of heroin from their possession. Police took police remand of these accused and during that time the accused told about their other associates.
Their network is spread in Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan, due to which the police raided these three states.
Used to order consignment from Pakistan
SP Crime Jasbir said that accused Gurmeet Singh was in contact with Riyaz Sarwar and Abid Ali, residents of Kasur area of Pakistan for the last five years. He used to order consignment directly from Pakistan for supplying drugs in India. In 2019 also, Gurmeet had smuggled 70 kg of heroin for a drug smuggler named Mahinder Singh.
Gurmeet Singh, along with his father Satnam Singh, Champakar Singh, Sona alias Chhotu and Gurjant, did a recce on the border and taking advantage of bad weather and fog, smuggled heroin through a 4-inch pipe under the barbed wires installed on the border.
Now the police is trying to reach them from where the accused used to bring drugs.
Profile of arrested accused
Gurmeet Singh (Jalalabad, Punjab): Mastermind. Already 2 cases of opium and heroin smuggling registered. 51.53 grams of heroin, 2 Ertiga cars and an electric scooty recovered.
Satnam Singh (Jalalabad, Punjab): Helped in importing drugs from Pakistan. Has been arrested earlier in a 70 kg heroin case.
Champkar Singh (Santosh Singhwala, Punjab): Involved in recce on the border and hiding drugs. 100 grams of heroin recovered.
Sona alias Chhotu (Chakkhiwa, Punjab): Gurmeet’s associate, Rs 5 lakh drug money recovered.
Gurmeet Mistry (Baluana Basti, Punjab): Local drug peddler, 77.57 grams of heroin recovered.
Surinder Kaur (Khurshedpur, Ludhiana): Local supplier, 22.42 grams of heroin recovered.
Kuldeep Singh (Jalalabad, Punjab): Gurmeet’s brother, 26.02 grams of heroin and Rs 12,000 recovered. Has been arrested earlier in a rape case.
Balkar Singh (Dhab Khushal Joya, Punjab): Used to supply heroin in the Tricity. Has been to jail earlier in a rape case.
Navneet Kaur (Sector 70, Mohali): Used to supply drugs along with Balkar.
