The administration has set a target of making the city a model solar city by the year 2030. The administration has so far achieved the target of generating 90 kilo megawatt electricity from solar energy. A new target of generating 125 megawatt electricity has been set by the end of this year.
At present, electricity is being generated with the help of plants installed on the roof of every government building in the city. Many important government offices, including the education department, have reduced their electricity bills to zero. They are also selling electricity to the grid.
Solar plants have been installed at all government offices
100% solar power plants have been installed at all government offices, which are generating about 36 megawatt electricity. Out of a total of 111 government schools, 108 were found suitable for solar energy and solar power plants have been installed in all of them.
Let us tell you that Chandigarh has received the first prize in generating solar energy in the category of Union Territories. At present, a target has been set to install solar power plants on private buildings. The administration claims that this target will be achieved by the year 2026.
According to Chandigarh Renewable Energy and Science and Technology Committee (CREST), if plants are installed on all the private buildings of the city under the Suryodaya scheme, then 150 megawatt electricity will start being generated.
