Doctors-nursing staff team from Chandigarh PGI left for Jammu and Kashmir: Will provide medical services in case of emergency; Injured woman referred from Poonch

Amid the emergency situation in the country after the India-Pakistan tension, PGI Chandigarh has taken a big step and sent its medical team to Jammu and Kashmir. The team includes doctors, nursing officers and transport support staff. This team has been sent to help the injured and provide medical services in an emergency. The team will be led by Principal-cum-Dean of GMC Jammu, Dr. Ashutosh Gupta.

PGI Director Vivek Lal said that the team sent is ready to deal with every challenge. The priority is to save the lives of patients and handle the emergency effectively. He said that all emergency facilities within the hospital have also been kept on high alert. Special preparations have been made in the Advanced Trauma Center.

Dr. Amit Sharma and Dr. Sachin from the Department of Anesthesia, Dr. Swapnesh Sahu and Dr. Gokul Krishnan from General, Vascular Surgery, Dr. Himanshu Kanwar and Dr. Udit K. Jayant from Orthopedics, Dr. Mahesh and Dr. Sachin C. Nair from Plastic Surgery have been sent. Narinder Tyagi and Ramesh Kumar are included in the nursing staff, while Shivnath, Pradeep Kumar and Lakhveer Singh have been included in the team for transport support.

11th convocation postponed

Government Medical College and Hospital Sector-32 (GMCH) has postponed the 11th convocation to be held today. Earlier, Union Health Minister JP Nadda was expected to attend it, later Union Minister of State Anupriya Patel was made the chief guest. But in view of the current situation, the program has been postponed. The new date will be announced after the situation becomes normal.

PGI Advanced Trauma Center on alert mode

Dr Vivek Lal himself inspected the Advanced Trauma Center and took stock of the preparations. The disaster ward has been activated in the hospital. Patients are being shifted to other wards. All departments have been alerted and stock of ICU, ventilators, beds and essential medicines has been ensured. A 48-year-old woman injured in the air strike on the Indo-Pak border has been brought to PGI from Poonch. The woman was sitting in a car when a bomb shell hit her eye. She was referred to PGI in critical condition from the local hospital. According to the spokesperson, the woman’s condition is critical and the surgery lasted till 3.30 pm.

Leaves cancelled, officers instructed to remain in touch all the time

In view of the current emergency situation, PGI and GMCH have cancelled the leave of employees till further orders. The order issued by the Medical Superintendent states that leave will be allowed only in urgent circumstances, that too with proper documents. Station leave has also been cancelled. All officers have been instructed to remain in touch even after working hours and report to the hospital immediately in case of emergency. Strict action has been warned in case of violation of the order.

Control room set up in Chandigarh

A control room has been set up in the General Hospital of Sector-16. A nodal officer has been posted here and staff has been put on duty in shifts.

The emergency departments of GMCH-16 and other civil hospitals have been strengthened by providing adequate staff, medicines and equipment.

The leaves of all the employees of the health department have been cancelled and a roster has been prepared for duty.

Ambulances have been prepared with necessary equipment, medicines and staff so that immediate service can be provided anywhere.

All the medicines and equipment required to deal with the disaster have been procured. Their list has also been prepared.

The communication network in the hospitals has been improved so that information can be exchanged in any situation.

The procedures (SOPs) set for disaster management have been reviewed and the staff has been told how to work especially in a situation like a blackout.

Only essential surgeries are being performed in the hospitals now. The rest have been stopped so that attention can be given to the emergency.

Blood banks have organized special blood donation camps to increase their stock.

A network has been created in collaboration with PGI, GMCH-32 and private hospitals. A meeting was held with IMA and private doctors and everyone has been alerted.
