The Chandigarh District Court has acquitted the youth arrested in the case of rape of a minor. The court said in its decision that there is a big difference in the statements of the victim and the medical report also did not confirm sexual assault. Therefore, the accused was released by giving the benefit of doubt.
This case is of August 2022, when a woman complained to Chandigarh Sector-26 police station that her 16-year-old daughter had left the house without informing on August 17. The police registered a missing person case and started investigation. About three months later, on November 17, the Imam of the mosque told the investigating officer that the minor girl had married the accused Adil through an affidavit in the mosque.
On the basis of the Nikahnama given by the Imam, the police found the girl and got her counseling done. After this, Sector-26 police registered a case against the accused Adil under the sections of rape and POCSO Act and arrested him and sent him to jail.
Truth revealed in court
During the trial, the victim told the court that she had gone with the accused of her own free will and he did not do anything wrong to her. The court admitted that the victim’s testimony was full of contradictions and no medical evidence was found to prove the allegations of the incident.
