The investigation led to the arrest of Sangrur Jail DSP (Security) Gurpreet Singh. He was actively involved in smuggling of mobile phones and narcotics inside the jail.
Sangrur Police has achieved a major breakthrough by busting an organised smuggling racket being operated from inside the jail premises.
Based on credible information, a raid was conducted inside the jail in which 9 mobile phones, 4 smartwatches, 50 grams of opium and other banned items were recovered. Preliminary investigation revealed the involvement of a Class IV employee who was helping in carrying out this smuggling.
Taking the investigation forward, the police arrested Manpreet Singh from Amritsar, who is an associate of inmate Gurwinder Singh, currently lodged in Sangrur jail. Police recovered 4 kg heroin, Rs 5.5 lakh cash (drug money), a Glock pistol and live cartridges from Manpreet Singh.
