There was an encounter between police and criminals in Zirakpur, Mohali on Monday night. Two criminals were injured by police firing. Both the accused were hiding in Zirakpur after committing two murders in Jalandhar.
Two criminals were injured by bullets in an encounter during a joint operation of Jalandhar Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) and Zirakpur Police in Metro Town Society of Peermuchhalla, Zirakpur at around 9 pm on Monday night. After this, the police admitted both of them to the government hospital. They have been identified as Akashdeep Singh and Gaurav Kapila. Both of them had fled from Jalandhar after killing two people on May 10 and were living in a rented flat in the said society in Peermuchhalla.
Police said that on secret information, Jalandhar CIA Police had received input that the accused of two murders committed in Jalandhar were living in a rented flat in Peermuchhalla. On this, Jalandhar Police laid a trap and contacted the local Zirakpur Dhakoli Police. After this, during the joint operation, the police reached to arrest two accused. But both of them opened fire on the police in an attempt to escape from there after seeing the police. On this, the police opened fire in retaliation to stop them. Due to this, both of them got injured by the bullet and the police arrested them. One accused has been shot on the leg and the other on the arm. Both have been admitted to the government hospital for treatment. In this case, the police has registered a case against both the accused under the Arms Act and attempt to murder.
According to the information, both the accused of two murders in Jalandhar were hiding in flat number-153C of the said society. In this case, the landlord has also been taken into custody by the police. He is also being questioned.
Mohali SP (Detective) Gaurav Jindal said that the accused Akashdeep Singh and Gaurav Kapila started firing as soon as they saw the police team. In retaliation, the police also fired, in which both were shot. Their criminal records are also being told. Weapons and other objectionable material have also been recovered from his flat. The police have appealed to the people that if anyone has any information related to this case, they should come forward and help in the investigation. During the encounter, there was chaos in the densely populated society. The local people were terrified due to the sound of bullets and the presence of heavy police force.
