Now you will get the last chance for tampering electricity meter in Chandigarh
Exemption till June 9, no penalty, no case, 6 months’ fee will have to be paid
If you have tampered with the electricity meter, then now the time to regret is over. Chandigarh Power Distribution Limited (CPDL) has started a relief-filled Voluntary Declaration Scheme (VDS) for such consumers, under which the tampered meter can be replaced till June 9 without any inquiry or legal action.
The purpose of this scheme is to give consumers a chance to voluntarily correct the mistake. The scheme has started from May 26 and will remain in force till June 9 only. After this, if caught, not only will a heavy fine have to be paid under the general rules, but a police case can also be registered.
No action will be taken if tampering is accepted
According to Chandigarh Power Distribution Limited (CPDL) officials, if the consumer himself comes forward and accepts tampering in the meter, then no complaint will be registered against him nor will any inquiry be done. Not only this, the department has also reduced the penalty. Earlier, where the assessment fee was charged for 12 months, now only 6 months’ fee will have to be paid.
Under this scheme, the consumer will have to get a new electricity meter installed, the entire cost of which will have to be borne by the consumer himself. The installation of the meter will be done by CPDL.
The VDS scheme has been implemented as a one-time relief under the 2018 regulation of the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC). The department has clarified that this is a one-time opportunity. After this, strict action will be taken if tampering is found in the meter.
