There is a threat of rain on the playoff matches of the Indian Premier League (IPL) to be held at the Mullanpur Cricket Stadium near Chandigarh. Surinder Paul, Director of the Meteorological Department in Chandigarh, has predicted that there will be strong winds along with rain on 29 and 30 May. Its effect will be seen in Chandigarh, Punjab and Haryana.
The problem is that the IPL playoff matches are also to be played on 29 and 30 May at the Mullanpur Stadium. On this warning of the Meteorological Department, the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) says that they are fully prepared for both the matches. They will keep an eye on how the rain is on both days.
Let us tell you that the IPL tournament, which has been going on since March 22, is now in its final stage. Now only one match of the league stage is left, which will be played today (May 27) between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). After this there is no match on May 28.
Qualifier-1 and Eliminator matches are to be held at Mullanpur Cricket Stadium. However, which teams will clash in these will be decided after today’s match.
Strong winds will also blow along with heavy rain
Meteorological Department Director Surinder Paul said that there is an alert of storm and rain in Haryana, Punjab and Chandigarh on 29 and 30 May. This can also affect the IPL matches.
PCA is ready to deal with every situation
PCA sources said that full preparations are in place for the match to be held on 29 and 30 May. The matches that were held recently were held very well. Rain and strong winds are expected on 29 and 30 May, during that time if the rain stops for a while, then the match can be held again.
Special herringbone drainage system installed in the stadium
According to PCA sources, a modern herringbone drainage system has been installed in the stadium. With this system, water is quickly removed from the field within 25-30 minutes after rain. The herringbone system usually has a main pipe, which is connected to several small pipes along the slope, due to which the water of the field decreases rapidly. It is expected that matches will be completed even after light rain. If the rain does not stop, then nothing can be said.
Upcoming matches to be held in Mullanpur
Qualifier-1 will be held on 29 May: A total of 70 matches are to be held in this season of IPL. 68 of these have already been completed. Only the matches of 26 and 27 May remain. After the matches of these two days, the top-two finishing teams will clash in Qualifier-1 on 29 May.
Eliminator round will be held on 30 May: The team winning in the Qualifier-1 round will directly enter the final, while the losing team will get another chance to go to the final. For this, it will have to play in the eliminator match to be held at Mullanpur Cricket Stadium on 30 May. If the team wins here, it will enter the final, otherwise it will have to be satisfied with being at number three.
What will happen to the matches after the rain alert
The IPL organizers can shift the match to another stadium in view of the rain alert. However, no such plan is visible right now.
If it rains before or in the middle of the match, the match may be stopped and it may be of fewer overs. If the rain continues, then the match can also be canceled.
If the matches are canceled, then these matches can be played again. However, this did not happen in the league matches. Points were distributed to both the teams.
