The Punjab government has taken a big action against those making illegal liquor. The excise department has confiscated two Gujarat number trucks filled with 80,000 liters of ethanol in an operation of about eight hours, while eight people have been arrested.
Among the accused, four are from Bathinda, two from Uttar Pradesh and two from Nepal. The police have also seized two cars. This claim has been made by Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema. He said that a case has been registered against the accused. At the same time, there will be checking in factories in the entire area today. He said that 3.50 lakh bottles of country liquor can be made from the liquor that has been seized.
Ethanol came from Gurdaspur
The Finance Minister said that these trucks filled with ethanol came from a liquor factory located in Gurdaspur. The Excise Department had got information about this. After this our team was active. But the accused moved ahead with a complete strategy. They have been arrested from Manraj Dhaba. At the same time, this operation is still going on. Soon a big disclosure will be made by the government.
It is used to make many things
The Finance Minister said that ethanol is also present in petrol and diesel. It is also used to make desi liquor. The quantity seized could have been used to make 3 lakh 50 thousand (50 degree) bottles of desi liquor. If we talk about foreign liquor, then 2 lakh 50 thousand (75 degree) liquor is made. Sanitizer is prepared in one lakh ten thousand. He said that it is also used in many other things.
600 liters of methanol was seized
More than 22 people died due to drinking liquor on 13 May this month in Majitha. All the people belonged to needy families. After this, the opposition also took up this matter seriously. At the same time, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann himself visited the area and announced to give ten lakh rupees each to the victim families and a job to one member of the family.
Along with this, action was started against those making illegal liquor. On the same day, Patiala police seized 600 liters of methanol coming from Delhi, which was to be used in making liquor. Apart from this, country-made liquor was also seized at many places.
