A case of fraud of about Rs 2.5 crore has come to light from a 70-year-old female chief architect living in Sector-10A of Chandigarh. Cyber thugs digitally arrested the woman by introducing themselves as senior officials of TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India), CBI and Supreme Court.
The fraudsters made her transfer a large amount for several days by creating mental pressure. On the complaint of the victim, Sector 17 Cyber Cell Police Station has registered an FIR against unknown persons.
Kept citing confidential investigation
To take the woman into confidence, the accused repeatedly kept referring to ‘confidential investigation’ and told her not to talk to anyone about this. The woman was constantly told that if she gave any information to anyone, it would be considered an obstacle in the investigation and she would be arrested immediately.
Said – talk to the CBI officer
In the complaint given to the Cyber Cell, former Chief Architect of Chandigarh Sumit Kaur said that on May 3, the woman received a phone call. In which the caller introduced himself as an officer of TRAI and said that her mobile number has been used in illegal activities. Due to which an FIR has been registered against him. The fraudsters connected the woman to an alleged police officer for further investigation.
Connected to a person through WhatsApp call
After this, the woman was connected to a person through WhatsApp call, who introduced himself as CBI DIG Raj Ranjan. In the call, the woman was told that her name has come up in a money laundering case. In which Jet Airways CEO Naresh Goyal is also involved.
She was also shown a fake arrest warrant and also told that a fake account has been opened in her name in Canara Bank, Mumbai. Which is being used in crime.
Fake video call of Supreme Court judge
On May 4, the complainant was told that she is under ‘digital arrest’ and now she will have to keep her mobile on all the time. Information about all her assets deposited in bank, insurance, mutual fund, PPF and post office was sought. On May 5, the woman was introduced to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court through a video call.
