Senior party leader and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi is coming to Haryana today (June 4) to expand the Congress organization in Haryana. He will meet the senior leadership of the state Congress in Chandigarh and give a roadmap to end factionalism and strengthen the organization.
Congress has not been able to establish its organization in the state for 11 years. About a month after Rahul’s visit, new appointments of district presidents are likely to be made in Haryana Congress. For this, 22 observers have already been deployed in all the districts of the state. Rahul Gandhi will take feedback by meeting these observers today.
Hooda-Sailja will reach to receive Rahul
Rahul Gandhi will reach Chandigarh airport at 11:30 am. Congress in-charge BK Hari Singh, Congress state president Udaybhan, former CM Bhupendra Singh Hooda, Sirsa MP Kumari Selja and Rajya Sabha MP Randeep Surjewala will reach to receive him.
After this Rahul will go to Chandigarh Congress office. Here after 12 o’clock he will hold a meeting with 17 senior leaders associated with the Congress organization. In the meeting, Rahul Gandhi will give the mantra to the Congress leaders to end factionalism and fight unitedly in Haryana. After lunch, he will hold a meeting with 22 observers of Congress appointed in Haryana and address them.
District presidents will be between 35 to 55 years
Criteria have been set for the District Presidents of Congress. To become the District President of Congress, the age should be between 35 to 55 years. Apart from this, there should also be experience of working in the organization continuously for 5 years. The observers will give preference to those with a clean image and those who are away from any kind of factionalism. Where more than one worker will be in the race for the District President, there a panel will be prepared after mutual discussion and elections will be held through voting.
Rahul Gandhi’s focus will be on ending factionalism
The purpose of Rahul Gandhi coming to Haryana and meeting with all the leadership will be to end factionalism. Apart from this, efforts will also be made to bring back to the party those workers who left the party due to factionalism. Let us tell you that during the Haryana assembly elections in 2024, the factionalism going on in the state Congress came in front of Rahul Gandhi.
When Rahul Gandhi came to Haryana during the campaign, the leaders were seen fighting with each other on the stage itself. Rahul Gandhi had also indicated to end factionalism by making Selja and Hooda shake hands in Narayangarh, Ambala, but the factionalism kept increasing instead of decreasing.
Rahul had called a meeting after the defeat
After the defeat of Congress in Haryana, Rahul Gandhi’s pain came to the fore. Rahul Gandhi had called a review meeting in Delhi after the defeat. In this meeting held at Mallikarjun Kharge’s house, Rahul Gandhi had said that the reason for losing the election is that the interests of the leaders of Haryana had become above the party interest.
In Haryana, Congress got only 0.85% less votes but 11 seats less than BJP
How factionalism ruined Congress’ chances can be seen from the fact that the difference between Congress and BJP’s votes in the assembly was only 0.85%. BJP got 39.94% votes while Congress got 39.09%.
However, in terms of seats, Congress got 37 seats as compared to BJP’s 48. When this was discussed, it was found that the whole game was spoilt due to internal conflict. Compared to 2019, there was a 3.45% vote swing in BJP’s favour while it was 11.01% in Congress’ favour.
