11th International Yoga Day celebrated in Chandigarh: Administrator Kataria celebrated it in Tiranga Park; said- Yoga is a way of life

The 11th International Yoga Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and energy in Chandigarh on Saturday. Yoga sessions were organized in various parts of the city. The main event was held at Tiranga Park in Sector-17. Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria also participated in the event and performed yoga with the citizens.

School children, elderly, youth and administrative officials also participated in the program. Yoga practice began with Surya Namaskar and Pranayam in the morning, after which various yogasanas were performed. On this occasion, Administrator Kataria said, “Yoga is not just exercise, but a way of life. It keeps both body and mind healthy. Yoga teaches us self-control, discipline and positivity. Every citizen should make yoga a part of his life.”

Yoga Day was also celebrated in PGI. During this, PGI Director Prof. Vivek Lal, Director, Prof. R.K. Rathore, Dean (Academics), Prof. Sanjay Jain, Dean (Research), Pankaj Rai, Deputy Director (Administration), Prof. Vipin Kaushal, Chief Medical Superintendent, Prof. Akshay Anand, Department: Neurology and other staff were present.

International Yoga Day is celebrated every year on 21st June. On 11th December 2014, the United Nations General Assembly accepted the proposal of Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and gave it international recognition. The first Yoga Day was celebrated in 2015 and since then it is organized every year on a large scale in the country and abroad.

Yoga Day was also celebrated with great enthusiasm at Sukhna Lake, PGI, Punjab University, Industrial Area, School-Colleges, Parks and Wellness Centers. The yoga practice program started at 5:30 am at Sukhna Lake. In which a large number of people participated. Yoga instructors made people practice various asanas.

Benefits of Yoga

Doctors, nurses and health workers celebrated Yoga Day at PGI Chandigarh. He said that yoga is an important medium for health workers to get relief from mental and physical stress. Thousands of students also performed group yoga at UIET ground of Punjab University

Doing yoga makes the body strong and flexible. It also improves the digestive system. Doing yoga reduces mental stress. Yoga increases self-control and concentration, and strengthens the immune system. According to experts, yoga is also beneficial in problems like diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, depression, back pain.
