If any vehicle is stopped, strict action will be taken against the policemen. A senior officer issued these orders on Monday. The policemen posted at traffic light points and intersections will only control the traffic. Apart from this, the policemen will not issue challan to any vehicle. DGP Sagar Preet Hooda held a meeting with IPS at Sector-9 Police Headquarters on Monday evening. In the meeting, the DGP gave instructions to all the IPS. After the meeting was over, the message was broadcast in the traffic wing that no traffic policeman would stop any vehicle in the city.

Accused of stopping vehicles and collecting money in lieu of challan

After the transfer of DGP Surendra Yadav, the personnel of Chandigarh Traffic Wing were accused of stopping vehicles coming from other states and collecting money in lieu of challan. Videos of taking money and misbehavior went viral on social media. Not only this, a few days ago a constable of the traffic wing was caught on video taking Rs 500. Senior officials suspended him and started a departmental inquiry.

The matter of stopping the traffic wing reached the DGP

The matter of stopping vehicles from Punjab and Haryana and challaning them had reached the Administrator and DGP. The matter of stopping vehicles coming from other states was investigated. The investigation found that the policemen used to stop vehicles coming to Chandigarh from other states and harass their drivers.

Bids were made for squares and light points

According to traffic police sources, policemen used to bid for duty at the entry points and intersections of Chandigarh. Squares and light points were sold for lakhs. This whole game was done by the clerk employees. After the policeman was seen taking money in the video, senior officials transferred the clerk of the traffic wing. Challan will be issued from CCTV cameras

High-tech CCTV cameras have been installed at the main light points and intersections of the city. The police team will issue challans from CCTV cameras. People say that when cameras are installed, why do traffic policemen stand and issue challans? Under the Smart City Project, a total of 2130 CCTV cameras have been installed in Chandigarh. Out of these, 1433 cameras belong to Chandigarh Police. Out of 1015 ITMS cameras installed at 40 intersections, 159 cameras are for detecting red light violations, which issue challans to vehicles crossing the red light or stopping at the zebra crossing. Similarly, 163 new queue systems have also been installed.

Automatic queue detection system installed

To control traffic better, Chandigarh Traffic Police has installed Automatic Queue Detection System (QD) at major intersections and traffic lights in the city. Now the traffic lights will automatically decide their timing according to the number of vehicles on the roads. These systems have been installed at 163 places at 40 major traffic junctions.
