now a deep pit has formed in this main square. There has been a hat-trick of road collapses in the city within a week, due to which a deep pit has formed in the middle of the road near Fawwara Chowk. This season, the first case came to light on Pakhowal Road, where people had to face problems due to the collapse of the road near Gurdev Nagar. After this, the road collapsed near Layalpur Sweet in Mintgumri Chowk of Model Town, due to which the closed road has not been opened till now.
The name of Fawwara Chowk was also added to this list on Monday, where a deep pit formed in the middle of the road, after which it has become clear that travelling on the roads of the city is no longer free from danger.
Municipal Corporation officials are silent on taking action against companies laying underground cables. The reason behind the cases of roads collapsing one after another is being attributed to soil sliding after leakage in water-sewerage lines or manholes. The companies laying underground cables are directly responsible for these conditions as they are causing problems by damaging the water-sewerage lines or manholes passing underneath while digging with machines. But Municipal Corporation officials are silent on taking action against these companies because the B. & R. Branch gives permission to lay underground cables by taking bribes. Perhaps this is the reason that despite the Mayor-Commissioner banning laying underground cables during the rainy season, digging work is going on continuously with machines in different parts of the city.
