No online challans in Jalandhar for now! Read the latest update.

Date:

At a meeting held on Monday between the Police Commissioner and other officials, the online challan project has been put on hold for the time being. However, traffic police officers demonstrated a demo challan to CP Dhanpreet Kaur during the meeting. The trial of online challan is a success, but the police believe that suddenly issuing online challans to people would be wrong. Therefore, the traffic police will be raising awareness for a period of time, and if people don’t become aware, they may suddenly start issuing online challans at any time.

Following the zebra crossings in the city, the traffic police have installed signboards throughout the city informing people that CCTV cameras are active and that violations of traffic rules could result in online challans. In addition to the city’s entry and exit points, the traffic police will focus more on crowded intersections and areas with high traffic loads. ADCP Traffic Inspector Gurbaz Singh stated that the traffic police are giving people some time so that they don’t feel that the rules are being imposed on them.

People must now develop the habit of following traffic rules. He urged people to wear helmets when leaving their homes, use seat belts while driving, and avoid using mobile phones, triple-riding, or driving at high speeds. Everyone should follow traffic rules. If this is not observed, online challan issuance will be implemented any day.

The ADCP stated that all preparations have been completed. The trial of online challan issuance was also successful on Monday. It should be noted that in 2019, following a survey in the city under the Smart City initiative, 1,150 high-quality CCTV cameras were installed at 188 points. This will help keep an eye on traffic violators and snatchers. CCTV cameras are also used to monitor traffic violators. The control room for the cameras has been built in the police line from where the police personnel can keep an eye on the entire city.
