In this computer age, the Punjab State Power Corporation’s system has also been equipped with state-of-the-art technology. According to reports, electricity bills for consumers across Punjab have been issued through an AI scanning app, instead of being manually generated by departmental employees.
This policy has been adopted by the Punjab Government and the Punjab State Power Corporation to curb corrupt and bribe-taking employees who inflate or overestimate units when preparing electricity bills. While many of PowerCom’s bribe-taking meter readers have been lining their pockets by making deals with consumers and committing significant fraud during the preparation of electricity bills, the PowerCom department has been suffering significant financial losses due to this entire scam.
